Red River Valley Dry Edible Bean Scene
There used to be a time where the amount of producers growing dry edible beans in the Red River Valley could be counted on your fingers, but that number has rapidly grown over time, and it continues to grow each year. Mitch Coulter of the Northarvest Bean Growers tells us more about the varieties of edible beans grown across the region, and how a majority of the crop stays in the country for domestic consumption.
Coulter says a large mission of the Northarvest Bean Growers is the promotion of dry edible beans in North Dakota and Minnesota, and he explains some of the ways they do so.
More and more producers are growing dry edible beans each year, and Coulter says one reason for this is that edible bean rotations are favorable to producers who grow sugarbeets.
There are currently some issues facing the dry edible bean market, and Coulter speaks more about some of these issues.
Coulter was a guest on the KRJB Farm and Field Show which airs Wednesday afternoons from 2:00 to 5:00 on 106.5 FM.
