Region 8A East Visual Arts Festival comes to Fosston

On Wednesday, March 29th, the Region 8A East Visual Arts Festival will come to Fosston High School, with 125 student artists from Grade 9 through 12 from eleven area schools entering the festival. There will be 160 pieces of art entered in twelve different categories, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and more!

Professors and professional artists will come to judge these pieces using a scoring system for the work with a specific criteria. Through the scoring, these young artists can receive an excellent or superior rating, but do not compete against each other, instead against the standards of the Minnesota State High School League.

One piece from each category will be awarded the Spotlight on the Arts Award. The winners will have the option to have their work displayed virtually at the Perpich Center for the Arts in the Twin Cities for a weekend in May.

While the art is being judged, students will have the opportunity to attend a panel discussion and demonstration, featuring area artists Heidi Danos and Mike McColl, in the Fosston Community Library Arts Theater. They will also be able to attend a special showing of a movie at the Fosston Theater.

The public and student artists can see a viewing of the student art from 12:30 PM until 1:00 PM in the Civic Center Gym. At 1:00 PM, an awards presentation will be held in the Fosston High School Main Gym. Students will receive a possible certificate and/or medal for their artwork.
