Safe Kids – Be Wary of Carbon Monoxide

Safe Kids – Be Wary of Carbon Monoxide

March 7, 2022 News -- KKIN-KFGI-KLKS-WWWI 0

We recently spoke with Amy Covington of Safe Kids Grand Forks. The goal of Safe Kids is to prevent unintentional injuries in children birth to age 19. We had a few winter topics to discuss.

Covington first discussed the hazard of carbon monoxide.

We also discussed in the full interview the importance of safety around fish houses and hunting shacks; one tips is that generators for heating those spaces should be at least 20 feet away. Daylight savings time is also a good time to check batteries on smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Another place to consider carbon monoxide in the winter is while traveling. Noting that ditches are full of snow…

Covington also noted that four out of five car seats are used incorrectly. Safe Kids holds classes to teach the correct ways to use them. Visit cert.safekids.org for more information. Our full interview, in which Covington also discusses making medications unattainable for accidental ingestion, is available on the Wake the Lakes portion on rjbroadcasting.com.
