On average 38 kids in the United States each year die from heat stroke after being left alone in a car. For this reason, Safe Kids Grand Forks is encouraging parents to take preventive steps in making sure their kids don’t become one of those cases. Carma Hanson of Safe Kids Grand Forks shares some preventive steps you can do to avoid tragedy.

Hanson also encourages all car owners to lock up their cars, as approximately half of all youth heat stokes involving cars is caused by a child gaining access to a vehicle.

Many believe that cracking open a car window is a way to prevent heatstroke. Hanson says this is not true, and she explains why.
