Schoenborn discusses RD Offutt v White Earth Nation lawsuit 

Earlier this week it was announced that RD Offutt Farms would be suing White Earth Nation over an ordinance requiring farmers on or around the reservation to apply for water permits with the White Earth Division of Natural Resources. The lawsuit claims that White Earth Nation does not have the authority to require farmers to get tribal water permits. 

Mahnomen County Commission Chair Darvin Schoenborn discussed this lawsuit during his latest appearance on the Kaleidoscope program and said it’s another instance of the State of Minnesota not communicating properly with local governments and voiced his frustrations. 

Schoenborn clarified more and said that these issues wouldn’t arise if local governments wouldn’t be “left in the dark all the time” and actually discussed things before deciding on a solution.
