Several Contested Races, Both Statewide and Local, For 2024 ND Primary

Traill County residents will make their voices heard in determining the outcome of several contested races in Tuesday’s North Dakota primary elections. 

At the top level, contested races include Governor and US House. Current US Congressman, Kelly Armstrong, challenges Lieutenant Governor, Tammy Miller, for the Republican nomination for governor. The winner of this primary would then square off against Democratic candidate Merrill Piepkorn. 

Seven total candidates have tossed their hats in the rings for their party’s nominees for Congress. Five will look to win the Republican nomination, including former Miss America, Cara Mund, and Public Service Commissioner, Julie Fedorchak. The Democratic candidates on the ballot for US House are Trygve Hammer and Roland Riemers.

Closer to home, there are five candidates for Hillsboro School Board’s two seats: incumbent Mary Mattson, along with challengers Cody Kritzberger, Stephanie Smith, Sara Myers, and Brad Richter. Both incumbents for Traill County Commission seats are also contested, with District Two incumbent, Kurt Elliott, facing four challengers.

Measures include congressional term limits, a mill levy for the Mayville Public Library and a levy for the Northern Cass School District. A reminder that voters can only vote for one party when it comes to political party primaries.
