Starry Stonewort Confirmed in Blackduck Lake
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has confirmed that Blackduck Lake near Blackduck in Beltrami County has the presence of the invasive age Starry Stonewort. This marks the 25th lake in the state of Minnesota to have the presence of Starry Stonewort which was first found in 2015.
Starry stonewort is an algae that looks similar to some native aquatic plants, but in the late summer and early fall, starry stonewort’s small white star-shaped bulbils become more visible, making it easier to distinguish from other aquatic plants.
According to the Minnesota DNR Starry Stonewort has never been eradicated from a lake or river in the US.
