Steve Philion to receive “Distinguished Service Award” for year 50+ years of officiating.
The Minnesota State High School League is recognizing nine officials from across the state for their decades of service, and one of them is Hall of Fame coach and longtime local official Steve Philion.
Steve has devoted more than 50 years to officiating, beginning as a teenager when he first stepped behind the plate as a baseball umpire.
He says there are still plenty of opportunities for people to get involved in officiating today, and connecting with a mentor, someone like himself, is a great way to begin.
Steve will be honored during the Boys Basketball State Tournament during the halftime intermission of the Class AA championship game on March 28 at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.
