Sugarbeet planting nearing completion

May 1, 2025 Farm News News -- KRJB-KRJM-KKCQ 0

The 2025 Sugarbeet Spring Planting Season is about 70% complete, and producers are very happy with how planting has gone. American Crystal Sugar General Agronomist Joe Hastings talks more about this year’s crop potential, and pre-emergence possibilities.

Earlier this week the Red River Valley received a significant amount of rainfall, and Hastings says that the rainfall was a good thing, and it should have positive effects on the crop.

There have been cooler temps reported across the Red River Valley, but Hastings says there should be no concerns about the cool ground temperature.

Temperatures are supposed to rise over the coming week, with temps expecting to get up into the high 70s, and low 80s. Hastings explains whether or not producers should be worried about root rot in their sugarbeet crop.

Hastings was a guest on the KRJB Farm and Field Show, which airs Wednesdays from 2:00 to 5:00 on KRJB 106.5 FM. For more agricultural news go to the Farm News webpage on rjbroadcasting.com.
