Threatening Text Messages
FERGUS FALLS, MN—An Ottertail man was taken into custody for allegedly sending text messages to an attorney and a sheriff’s deputy about a four year old DWI case. 60-year-old Craig Edward Hedstrom was charged with two counts of threats of violence–one for each person he allegedly threatened. These are felonies, which each count carrying a maximum five years in prison and a 10-thousand dollar fine. According to the criminal complaint, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint last Tuesday from a Fergus Falls attorney about a death threat. The attorney said he received a text from Hedstrom that said Hedstrom would, quote, “kill you with a K.” The attorney said he represented Hedstrom in a DWI case four years earlier and that Hedstrom blamed the attorney for his problems. Around that same time, an Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Deputy reported getting a similar text from Hedstrom with the same “kill you with a K” message. Law enforcement arrested Hedstrom on Wednesday. He said the K meant kindness and he was still frustrated over how a 2022 DWI case was handled.
