Tick Prevention
Many people like to spend a summer day taking a hike. If there’s anything that can make a hike unpleasant, it’s getting bitten by a tick. New data from the Centers for Disease Control shows that emergency room visits for tick bites are at the highest levels in almost ten years. Kurt Avery, the founder of Sawyer, which makes outdoor protection, tells us why we have so many ticks.
Avery says a product called Permethrin has been shown to significantly reduce your chances of bringing home a tick from the woods.
Avery says ticks can’t fly or jump and they will hang out at the tips of tall grasses and brush, hoping to latch on to you by extending their front legs. He also recommends keeping your lawn cut short to prevent ticks from settling in.
