Voyageurs Split vs Gogebic on Sophomore Day

At the college level, the Rainy River Voyageurs wrapped up the regular season Saturday with Sophomore Day games against Gogebic Community College.

In the women’s game, the Voyageurs fell 92 to 35. Sophomore Taniya Hamilton, the only sophomore in action with Kadence Schmidtbauer out sick, scored 7 points with 2 rebounds in her final home appearance.
EllaGrace Kellerby led Rainy River with 15 points, while Marrissa Mills added 8.

In the men’s game, Rainy River pulled away in the second half for a 74 to 61 win. Rodney Mozard led the Voyageurs with 30 points and 13 rebounds, while Talib Mott added 16 and Jaymar Previl finished with 13. Samuel Jideofor grabbed 17 boards to lead to the teams 45 total.
Players said second-half defense and rebounding helped seal the win.

I got to speak with the Sophomores who had returned from last year: Jaymar Previl(#0), Austin Howe(#1), Talib Mott(#3), Rodney Mozard(#4), Zayviar Handson(#11), and Samuel Jideofor(#20).

Then I also got to speak with Carter Smith(#2), a Sophomore who transferred to Rainy River this year.

Sophomores were honored before the game, and the Voyageurs men now turn their attention to the upcoming Region XIII tournament game against Ridgewater.
