Wake the Lakes “Moron Lawbreaker of the Week” 6-20-23
An Illinois man is recovering from a gunshot wound in his leg and is also facing firearm charges after he told police he accidentally shot himself in his sleep while dreaming that somebody was breaking into his home. Police responded to a call about a person with a gunshot wound and found 62-year-old Mark Dicara bleeding profusely from his leg. They applied a tourniquet and had an ambulance take him to the hospital. Once he was stabilized, he told cops that he “had a dream that someone was breaking into his home” and during that dream, he “retrieved his .357 Magnum revolver and shot at who he believed was the intruder.” But when he fired the gun in his dream, he actually really fired a shot into his leg, which woke him up. Adding insult to injury, investigators later discovered that the man’s state-issued Firearm Owners Identification card had expired and wasn’t renewed, and he was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm.
