Walz & Flanagan address new “Red Flag” gun laws
On Monday Minnesota became the twentieth state in the union to institute “red flag” gun laws. This new law will allow Minnesotans to ask courts to prevent individuals from owning a gun if they believe the individual is a danger to themselves or someone else, and allows judges to grant two two different kinds of orders that would last from 14 days to one year.
On Tuesday Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Lutinetenant Governor Peggy Flanagan held a press conference to address this new law. Walz spoke very highly of the law.
Lt. Governor Flanagan also praised the law saying “if it saves one life it’s a success.”
If a court makes an order to surrender guns the individual will have up to 24 to surrender all firearms in their possession to a licensed gun dealer or a law enforcement agency. If an individual fails to do so law enforcement agencies will be forced to execute search warrants and take the individuals guns forcefully.
