Weird and Wacky Wednesday “Canadian Woman finds out marriage annulled without her approval”
Marriage annulled? Better verify, just in case… A Canadian woman says she was shocked to learn she was no longer married and that her husband had somehow gotten an annulment without her consent. Gina and Warren Zant were married in the Cook Islands in 1999 and a few years ago filed a legal separation agreement. Under the agreement, Gina would be entitled to survivor’s benefits from Warren’s pension when he dies. But apparently Warren didn’t want that, so he filed a case with the court to annul the marriage on the grounds that their wedding in the Cook Islands was not legally binding, and that Gina would testify to the same. So he testified to the judge and had another woman pretending to be Gina also testify that the marriage wasn’t legal. The judge approved the request and ended the marriage. But when Gina eventually learned that the marriage was annulled without her consent, she went to court to explain that an imposter had posed as her, and a judge did some investigating and canceled the annulment. It’s unclear if Warren will face any legal punishment.
