Weird and Wacky Wednesday: “UK family defies local government, lives in middle of roundabout”
Round and round … A family in the U.K. lives in one of the most unique houses in the world and has gotten a lot of attention, mostly for their decades of defiance against the local government. David John and Eirian Howatson moved into their house in 1960, when it seemed like a normal, typical neighborhood. But several years later, they were told that their house was located where a road was planned to be built. The couple didn’t care, and they refused to leave. So, the town chose to build the road around them, leaving their property in the middle of a roundabout with traffic circling them all day long. They’re still living there 40 years later. Howatson says, “We don’t have to worry about any neighbors, but life on the roundabout does get busy at times.”
