Welke’s bat leads Thompson past Renville County

The #2 seed Thompson Tommies showed up in full effect today with a 9-1 victory over the Renville County Muskrats. Senior Catcher Will Welke knocked in four runs with a 2RBI Triple in the bottom of the 2nd inning that made it 4-0. For an encore he followed it up with another 2-run hit in the bottom of the 6th inning to extend the lead to 9-0.

Braden Tyce went 5 scoreless innings on just 70 pitches, leaving room for another appearance later in the tournament. Thomas Schumacher tossed the last two innings for the Tommies, allowing just one run on a Robert Zumbaum pinch hit RBI single in the 7th.

The Tommies will host the #3 seed Northern Cass Jaguars at Newman Outdoor Field on Friday at 4:30 in the semifinals.
