Coming up on Wednesday, Christians across the globe will be celebrating the start of Lent. For people who aren’t a part of the faith however, there’s a lot of confusion about this period of time. St William’s Catholic Church Deacon Nick Revier explains what Lent is, and why it’s celebrated by Christians world wide.

Unlike many holidays, Lent and Easter are on a different day each year, and Revier explains why that is.

For those in the Catholic Faith, Lent is also associated with the abstention of meat on Fridays, and Revier also explains the history of this practice, and why it’s something still practiced by Catholics today.

Lent is observed by churches that follow a liturgical calendar, which means it is observed by Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, and some Protestant denominations Including Lutherans, Presbyterians, and Methodists.
