13th Annual Bonspiel to Welcome Warm Weather and Full Field of Competitors
Naytahwaush, MN — Pinehurst Resort will be busy this weekend as they welcome back their 13th annual Bonspiel on South Twin Lake. Bonspiel is a three-day outdoor curling tournament and party on the ice, and it gets underway this Friday at 4pm and wraps up on Sunday evening. The ice is ready to go and a full roster of 64 teams are expected to compete. Historically, Bonspiel has fallen on some of the coldest days of the year, but this year temps are expected to be very mild. Andy Lavoy, organizer and new co-owner of Pinehurst, says that should help bring in fans and spectators who want to check out the action on the ice.
Even if you aren’t a curler, there will be lots to do throughout the weekend. Lavoy says there will be paddlewheel and live music at the resort and a nice warm ice bar on the lake.
While Andy and his brother in-law Ben Baumann have been running this event for years, this will be the first for them as owners of Pinehurst Resort. Lavoy says that doesn’t change much and this event and the resort will continue to be a family affair for years to come.
All are welcome to check out Bonspiel this Friday at Pinehurst Resort and South Twin Lake.
