2023 Vegetable of the Year crowned for Crow Wing County 

We have a winner for the vegetable for 2023 in Crow Wing County!   

After counting the 1,667 votes, the green bean is the winner.  It was a tight race between the veggie candidates that included broccoli, cabbage, green beans, peas and squash.  

One Vegetable, One Community is a campaign developed by the University of Minnesota Extension to encourage communities to eat more vegetables.  Winners in the past include the carrot in 2020, salad greens in 2021, and the cucumber for 2022.   

As the 2022 vegetable of the year, the cucumber will continue its reign until January 1^, 2023. Then, the green bean takes over the duties including public appearances in schools, at community events, and of course, planting and growing in gardens across Crow Wing County.   

Crow Wing Energized worked with community partners to distribute 2,728 cucumber seed packets and the cucumber was incorporated into food served at events hosted by CWE.  Take a moment to watch the green bean being ‘crowned’ as the Crow Wing County Vegetable of the year for 2023:  https://youtu.be/mrqh0QgDsTI
