Teens, Vaping & Nicotine
According to a state Youth Tobacco Survey, Minnesota students who use e-cigarettes, or vapes, are finding themselves increasingly trapped in nicotine dependence.
Department of Health (MDH) Tobacco Epidemiologist Sharrilyn Helgertz says this isn’t by mistake.
Helgertz says about 7 in 10 students who vape want to quit, with nearly two-thirds having tried to quit at least 10 or more times.
Helgertz adds that while vapes don’t have the tar from burning tobacco leaves, they do contain flavors meant for ingestion, not inhaling, and heavy metals.
