Minnesota Deaths From Gun Violence
A new report shows that 564 Minnesotans died from gun violence in 2024. The study from Project Minnesota is based on data from the Minnesota Department of Health. The main findings were that 72 percent of gun deaths were suicides…with 26-point-2 percent being homicides. Males were the majority of suicide and homicide victims. Among the suicide victims, nearly 90 percent were white, nearly 60 percent were lived in Greater Minnesota and more than one in four was over the age of 65. Also, veterans accounted for 14 and a half percent of gun suicides.
Among homicide victims in Minnesota, over 50 percent were Black and nearly 75 percent lived in the seven county Twin Cities metro area.
