This free screening is open to all preschool families and includes quick checks of your child’s health, development, and well-being. All children age 3 and up must complete this screening before starting kindergarten.

The Minnesota DNR is inviting the public to weigh in on fishing regulations for Rainy Lake later this month. I spoke with Phil Talmage, Area Fisheries Supervisor in International Falls, who says this review happens once every ten years.
Talmage says the DNR isn’t expecting major changes, but one update could make the rule more permanent.
Rainy Lake’s fishery has been closely managed for decades, with previous overharvest problems now under control.
Talmage says public input is an important part of the DNR’s decision-making process.
The public meeting will take place Tuesday, October 28th at 7 p.m. in the theater at Rainy River Community College.

The Arrowhead Regional Development Commission has welcomed Ann Seigfreid as its new NOAA Coastal and Climate Resilience Fellow, part of a four-year, $1.85 million climate resiliency grant with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Seigfreid will be based in Duluth, working closely with Saint Louis, Carlton, Cook, and Lake Counties, along with the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa and the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa — two sovereign Ojibwe nations — to strengthen local resilience against climate change and coastal hazards across Minnesota’s Arrowhead Region.
Her work focuses on energy sovereignty, partnering with Tribal energy departments to develop strategic energy plans, promote community education on air quality and energy efficiency, and highlight successes in programs like the State of Minnesota Green Steps initiative.
At Fond du Lac, Seigfreid is collaborating with the Resource Management Division to improve building energy efficiency and support long-term climate planning.
She holds a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Minnesota and will serve in her fellowship through May 2027.For more information, visit northlandresilience.org or follow ARDC Planning on Facebook.
