Bagley Man Accused Of Assaulting Law Enforcement
BAGLEY, MN—A Bagley man is in custody after allegedly assaulting and disarming law enforcement after a traffic stop last week. Daniel Johnson is facing charges of fourth degree assault, disarming a police officer, refusing to submit to a chemical test and obstructing the legal process. According to court documents, around 10:30 last Wednesday night (February 4), a Clearwater County Deputy on patrol saw Johnson driving erratically, hitting fog lights and swerving to avoid hitting deer. The deputy turned on his lights and made a traffic stop. The report says Johnson argued with the deputy about the traffic stop. Johnson was said to have watery eyes and smelled of alcohol. He initially refused a sobriety test, but changed his mind and admitted to having at least three beers. Another officer then arrived on the scene and placed Johnson under arrest. During the arrest, Johnson allegedly became combative and aggressive and pushed himself away from law enforcement and struck one of them in the face with a closed fist. The report goes on to say that an officer tried to use his taser, but Johnson grabbed it and tased the officer’s hand. Johnson was eventually handcuffed and taken into custody. He later complained of having chest pains. While he was taken to the emergency room, deputies say Johnson continued to be aggressive and hostile toward them.
