A man from Ogema is facing two felony charges after allegedly assaulting a peace officer and attempting to grab a knife during a struggle.  According to court documents filed in Becker County District Court, 21-year-old Dustin Eugene Jack of Ogema is charged with fourth-degree assault of a peace officer causing demonstrable bodily harm, and felony obstruction of legal process. Both charges stem from an incident on Sunday.  According to the criminal complaint, an officer responded to a reported disturbance at a rural Ogema address. Upon arrival, the officer encountered Jack, who allegedly approached him, used a racial slur, then punched the officer in the left side of the face.  The complaint states the officer drew his taser and tried to restrain Jack. During the struggle, the officer was alerted that Jack had a knife. According to the complaint, the officer took Jack to the ground on the porch, where Jack allegedly reached for a black-handled knife with a silver blade that was within arm’s reach. The officer grabbed the knife and threw it off the porch before Jack could reach it.  Court documents also allege Jack bit the officer’s leg during the struggle and told someone nearby to “grab the gun.” A second officer arrived and helped place Jack in handcuffs. The responding officer was taken to a hospital following the incident, where a doctor diagnosed him with a concussion, a swollen eye, and a cut on his elbow.  Jack’s fourth-degree assault charge carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison, a $6,000 fine, or both. The obstruction charge carries a maximum of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.
