New Study On MN Marijuana Use
Minnesota young people are saying “no” to marijuana and cannabis. The Minnesota Department of Health’s 2025 Minnesota Student Survey showed that 96 percent of students reported not using cannabis in the past month. This was the first student survey taken since adult cannabis use was legalized in Minnesota in 2023. The new survey continues a trend of fewer students using cannabis since the survey began in 2013. Just 12.7 percent of 11th graders reported using cannabis in the 2025 survey–down from 25.2 percent in 2013. Meanwhile, just 4.1 percent of ninth graders reported using cannabis in 2025–down from 13.8 percent in 2013; and 2.5 percent of eighth graders reported cannabis use in 2025–it was 7 percent in 2013. Also, more Minnesota students see using cannabis once or twice a week as moderately or gratefully harmful, reversing a trend seen from 2013 to 2022. The Minnesota Department of Health has information about cannabis use on its website.
