3 In Custody After Crookston Assault

CROOKSTON, MN—Three men are facing felony charges after they allegedly attacked a co-worker with a rock inside a Crookston hotel room. The incident happened last Thursday (July 23) at the Crookston Inn.  According to criminal complaints, the three men were part of a grain bin construction crew staying at the hotel.  Two of the three had been fired and the third quit the day before the incident.  The victim was another member of the construction crew who didn’t quit.  The victim was attacked in his hotel room.  According to the victim, one of the three, 26-year-old Juan Jose Erazo Herrera, threatened to kill everyone on the crew if they didn’t quit.  That night, Erazo Herrera along with 35-year-old Wilber Arnulfo Cartagena-Hernandez and 29-year-old Juan Carlos Alberto-Serrano, entered the victim’s room and Erazo Herrera struck the victim in the head with a rock.  The victim was taken to Riverview Hospital with a large gash on the right side of his head.  Detectives later found a towel with four golf ball sized rocks inside and what appeared to be blood stains.  Erazo Herrera, Cartagena- Hernandez and Alberto-Serrano have all been charged with second degree assault with a dangerous weapon.  The three are being held in the Polk County Jail pending further proceedings.
