Independence Day is today
Today is Independence Day, which means that it’s a great time to look back at our country’s history to understand why we celebrate this day. Ulen-Hitterdal History teacher Brad Dunham says that we call it Independence Day, because it’s when the declaration of Independence was signed, not when the USA actually gained its independence.
While the war fought for Independence is called the Revolutionary War, Dunham says it can actually be seen as a Civil War.
Dunham says it’s amazing to look back, and see everything this country has accomplished over the last 250 years.
