Sugarbeet crop update

Sugarbeet crop update

July 15, 2026 Farm News News -- KRJB-KRJM-KKCQ 0

Sugarbeet growers across the Red River Valley have seen their fair share of weather challenges this year, and heat is expected to be the biggest one over the next week. Despite these weather challenges, American Crystal Sugar Agronomist Manager for the Drayton Facility Justin Krieg told R&J Ag Reporter Nick Revier that the crop is progressing well.

As of late sugarbeet growers have been focused on disease management, specifically root maggot. Krieg talks more about root maggot management in his area, and how it’s gone.

Krieg says the next step for farmers in the Drayton area is to shift to cercospora leaf spot management, which starts a little later than other areas in the Red River Valley.
