Polk County Public Health: National Get Tested Day

In observance of National Get Tested Day on September 30, Polk Norman Mahnomen Community Health Services encourages individuals to take control of their sexual health by getting screened for sexually transmitted infections. This annual awareness day serves as a critical reminder that regular testing is a normal, proactive, and an essential part of your overall healthcare.

According to recent public health data, millions of new STIs occur every year, many of which show absolutely no symptoms. Left undetected and untreated, STIs can lead to long-term health complications, including infertility and an increased risk of HIV transmission. National Get Tested Day aims to break the stigma surrounding sexual health, foster open conversations, and connect communities with accessible testing resources.

Healthcare providers emphasize that STI testing is confidential, quick, and often available at little to no cost. PNMPH recommends that sexually active individuals get tested every 3-6 months or more frequently if needed.
