Bagley Fire Chief Shares Essential Tips for Fire Safety Week

It’s Fire Safety Week, and local officials are reminding everyone to take proactive steps to protect their homes and families.

When it comes to home fire safety, one of the first lines of defense is proper detection. Fire Chief Justin Netland of the Bagley Fire Department stresses the importance of keeping active smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in the right places and staying on top of yearly maintenance.

Beyond detectors, having the proper suppression tools nearby can keep a minor incident from escalating into a dangerous blaze. Netland emphasizes why having a charged fire extinguisher ready in key areas around your property is essential.

Fire hazards aren’t always obvious, and ordinary household items can pose unexpected risks if misused. Netland warns residents about a common indoor hazard that frequent fire calls stem from extension cords and covered power strips.

Educating the next generation is another major component of Fire Safety Week. On October 8th, the Bagley Fire Department will be visiting local students at the Bagley School. Netland explains what the kids can expect during the visit, and why it’s so important for young students to get familiar with firefighters in full gear.

Take time this week to test your detectors, check your extinguishers, and review your home’s fire safety plan with your family.
