The Crookston City Council concluded it’s meeting Monday night with the biggest news being the main agenda item passed as the approval of the 2026 agreement for impound shelter services between the city and the Humane Society of Polk County was finalized. The agreement will maintain existing financial terms as well add a provision regarding feral cats that was not in the previous agreement. In the new version if a spayed or neutered feral cat is impounded, the Humane Society may release the animal in a safe and humane manner if they choose to do so.

The vote passed with a lopsided majority of 6-1 in favor and 1 absentee member who did not vote.

Also in the meeting, the council voted to unanimously approve the consent agenda which included the approval of the September 21st minutes, the September 28th special council, and the city bills and disbursements totaling $644,522.02. There was also a resolution regarding a special event permit for the UMC Homecoming celebrations and a resolution authorizing the execution of the 2027 Office of Traffic Safety Grant Agreement.

The Council was also informed of Marketing Coordinator Keenan Devier’s resignation, effective October 2nd and the Council will now decide the next steps toward replacing him. The next Council meeting will take place Monday October 19th at 5:30pm.
