Lake Park American Legion Waiting to Determine Future After Fire Severely Damages Legion Hall
Lake Park, MN — It’s been a difficult couple days for the community of Lake Park after fire caused extensive damage to Lake Park American Legion on Sunday night. The Legion Hall, Lake Park’s only event center, served as a hub for gatherings including weekly fish frys, birthday parties, and countless community events and fundraisers. Photos shared by the group’s Facebook page showed heavy smoke and water damage in the main hall and melted walls and photos from the heat. Karen Erickson, Adjutant for the Lake Park Legion Post 181, says the Legion Hall has served an important role for the community for decades.
The future of the Lake Park Legion Hall remains uncertain as they await to hear from their insurance provider and the State Fire Marshall on the inspection. Erickson says they have received an outpouring of support from the community who are ready and willing to help out in any way, but she encourages them to be patient as they figure their next steps.
The cause of the fire is still undetermined. The Lake Park American Legion thanks all the area fire departments and first responders for their efforts on Sunday night.
