Red Lake Falls, MN — Over the past 15 years, Jason Brumwell and his Hoops for Hope charity basketball tournament have raised more than a half million dollars for cancer research. This weekend they hope to continue to add to that total through donations, silent auction items, raffles, and more. Hoops for Hope begins Friday night, April 22nd and continues through Sunday April 24th in Red Lake Falls. Hoops for Hope began in 2006 as a way to raise money for cancer research after Jason’s mom Diane was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and soon after lost her battle. Brumwell’s ultimate goal is that no one should have to lose a friend or loved one to cancer. That’s why the money the raise goes to the Jimmy V Foundation, which focuses all its efforts strictly on cancer research and finding a cure, according to Brumwell.

The Hoops for Hope Silent Auction has become something of legend in recent years, featuring dozens and dozens of autographed sports memorabilia and other unique items, according to Brumwell.

You can view the full list of silent auction items online at www.hoopsforhopefoundation.com.

There will also be raffle tickets sold for a chance to a Savage 30-06 rifle, Yetti Cooler, and a Kayak.

And this year on Friday night, Hoops for Hope is kicking off the charity weekend with a special basketball game in honor of Alex Gullingsrud. Alex is a young kid from Red Lake Falls who has been courageously battling cancer for the past year. Brumwell says the plan is for him and his family to be in attendance and they hope people pack the gymnasium on Friday night at 7:30pm to show their support.

Games will begin at 8am on Saturday and championship games begin Sunday at 9am. Join the Hoops for Hope group on Facebook to follow along with event updates.
