(Northern MN) — As we begin the month of May and Spring rains continue, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources sends caution to state forest road and trail users to watch for flooding and damage in the northern third of the state.

The DNR notes to stay safe on state forest roads and trails include not traveling on flooded roads even with hazards being hidden under floodwaters; obey forest road and trail closures, signs, and do not drive around barricades; pay attention to vehicle weight restrictions; and report unsafe conditions to the local area DNR Forestry.

Temporary road and trail closure information is updated weekly on Thursdays by 2pm on the DNR website. Closure signs also will be posted at entry points and parking lots, but roads that handle vehicle traffic during the spring thaw will remain open but might have vehicle weight restrictions. More information can be found on the State Forest Road Closure page on the DNR’s website.
