(Aitkin, MN) — The sight of May sunshine to clear out the remaining piles of leftover winter precipitation the lakes and rivers filling up in Aitkin County after a drought filled 2021.

In our monthly update with Aitkin County Sheriff Dan Guida speaking on the flood concerns to start a new month, he mentioned the levels technically at a high level but aren’t too much of a concern.

Sheriff Guida mentioned that the highest point, or crest, of the potential flooding will be receding back once the water makes its way through Aitkin County.

The warming temperatures have also helped the water levels begin to drop back down with the thawing ground.
