Ada, MN — The heat continues today on day of the Norman County Fair and Norman-Mahnomen Public Health is encouraging fairgoers to take some extra steps prevent heat-related illness while out at the fair today. Kim Myers with Norman-Mahnomen Public Health most importantly stay cool and stay hydrated.
Drinking water isn’t just good for keeping you hydrated, but Nicole, the Dental Innovation Coordinator with Norman-Mahnomen Public Health says its also good for rinsing off those sugary snacks like the mini doughnuts and cotton candy from your teeth.
Some other things you can do to stay cool and prevent heat-related illness at the fair this week:
Wear Appropriate Clothing: Choose lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
Stay Cool Indoors: Stay in an air-conditioned place as much as possible.
Schedule Outdoor Activities Carefully: Try to limit your outdoor activity to when it’s coolest, like morning and evening hours. Rest often in shady areas so that your body has a chance to recover.
Pace Yourself: Cut down on exercise during the heat. If you’re not accustomed to working or exercising in a hot environment, start slowly and pick up the pace gradually.
Avoid Hot and Heavy Meals: They add heat to your body!
