RELEASE FROM GARRISON BAY LAKE LIONS:

The foursome from Garrison Wine and Spirits turned in the low gross score of 59 at last Monday’s 25th annual Swinging for Scholars Garrison Bay Lake Area Lions Scholarship tournament. The golf tournament raises money for ten $1,000 scholarship awards for Crosby-Ironton and Aitkin high school graduates. Crosby-Ironton graduate Elin Silgen said the money will come in handy as she makes her way to Benedictine College in Kansas this fall to pursue her degree.

Longest drive for men prizes went to Mikael Christenson and John Gaither, for women to Tama Exsted and Michelle Diamon. Closest to pin prizes went to Ray Blom, Ron Lingwall and Mike Roth. The second place team honors went to Roth RV with a net score of 62.8. Third place went to Team Al Puckett with a net score of 69.

“The money will be very helpful for so many up-front expenses,” said Silgen. She spoke at the after-tournament dinner at Rutger’s Bay Lake Lodge. Aitkin graduate Connor Rose also spoke and he agreed that “the money will come in incredibly handy.”

GBLAL President Steve Jensen said “Elin and Connor are the reason we put the tournament on every year, to know that out area’s best and brightest will get the education and training they need for them to give back someday.”

Seven teams competed for cash and prizes at last Monday’s shot gun start best-ball golf outing at Rutger’s Jack’s 18 course near Deerwood. Afterward, teams and Lions enjoyed lots of door prizes as well as a prime rib and cod dinner with trimmings.
