Twin Valley City Council Moves Forward with Ordinance to Require Responsible Beverage Server Training
Twin Valley, MN — In partnership with the Norman and Mahnomen County Substance Misuse Prevention IMPACT Coalition, the City of Twin Valley will become one of the first cities in the area to pass an ordinance aimed at preventing the overserving of bar patrons and keeping alcohol out of the hands of minors. Twin Valley Mayor Ben Fall says this new ordinance will require all staff of any establishment that serves alcohol to participate in Responsible Beverage Server Training annually.
Some of the topics covered in the training include:
1. Pertinent laws and ordinances regarding the sale of alcohol;
2. Verification of age, forms of identification, and forms of false or misleading age identification;
3. The effect of alcohol on humans and the physiology of alcohol intoxication;
4. Recognition of the signs of intoxication;
5. Strategies for intervention to prevent intoxicated persons from consuming further alcohol;
6. The licensee’s policies and guidelines, and the employee’s role in observing these policies;
7. Liability of the person serving alcohol;
8. Effect of alcohol on pregnant women and their fetuses, and women in vulnerable situations
The Twin Valley City Council had their first reading of the ordinance in October and will have the 2nd and final reading at their next meeting in November.
