New Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson Discusses Fast Start to Session
East Grand Forks, MN — It’s been a fast and furious start to the 2023 Legislative session, according to Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson, who represents most of Northwest Minnesota in District 1. The fast pace is intentional, according to Senator Johnson, and it’s a direction that he and fellow republicans don’t like.
Republicans in the legislature face an uphill battle with Democrats having control of both the House and Senate, albeit in the Senate by only one seat. Senator Johnson notes that Democrats will still need to reach across the aisle, or it could hurt them long-term.
Now in his third term, Senator Johnson was given the honor the Minority Leader, making him the top-ranking Republican in Senate. As part of that role, his job is to keep fellow Senate Republicans on task with their priorities and work with other legislative leaders on finding common ground on bills.
