Polk County Sheriff Update on Internet Scams and Safety

Polk County Officers Justin Swang and Tom Brault were in studio to talk about Internet Safety and Scams. Scams are nothing new but more and more often children seem to be the focus of scams, something that as a parent troubles me. Swag and Brault explain how these scams work and what to watch out for.

Brault and Swang open up discussion about cellphone usage with kids. While there is no hard line for appropriate ages to allow children have a cellphone, there are ways to ensure safety and privacy. Knowing what your kids are exposed to and having open communication are both key in keeping children safe with cellphone and internet usage.

Scams are ever changing and ongoing. Recent scams that have gone through the area that are claiming to be Publishers Clearing House or from the IRS. Officers point out that if you are ever questioning the validity of a phone call, email or text to reach out to the Polk County Sheriffs Office. Chances are if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
