Ada Native Finding Success in International Skeet Competition

Ada, MN — Ada native Julia Nelson continues to put her mark on the world in the sport of International Skeet Shooting and is racking up medals on her way to a potential bid at the Olympics. Nelson, who is currently enrolled in the University of Florida, won Gold in the Individual competition and bronze in mixed teams at the Junior World Cup in Germany and just a few weeks ago brought home the silver medal with the women’s junior team at the World Shotgun Championship in Croatia. Nelson says she doesn’t take it for granted what she has accomplished and how far she’s come from the days of leading the Ada-Borup-West trap team.

Getting to this point was no easy task with hours upon hours of unique training exercises on top of the thousands of rounds she’s put through her Italian made Perazzi Over/Under 12 Gauge shotgun.

From her early days of competition, she had always hoped of one day competing at the highest level of competition and adds that it’s pretty surreal to now be lining up against some of the top skeet athletes in world.

And Julia hasn’t forgetten where she’s come from either as she continues to support the programs that helped get her to this point.

Nelson is preparing for her next matches, including the Miami Cup in January and the USA Selection match in February in Tuscon, which will determine athletes for the next World Cup.

Julia, who graduated from Ada-Borup-West in 2020, is the daughter of Doug and Susan Rantala Nelson and has a twin sister Catherine.
