Aitkin County Board meeting from August 23rd
(Aitkin, MN) — The Aitkin County Board of Commissioners meeting from Tuesday, August 23rd convened to hear budget presentations from County Department Heads and reviewed grant funding applications from the Government Center Board Room.
Jen Twombly, sitting in for Aitkin County Sheriff Dan Guida, mentioned the Sheriff’s Office Budget may see some increases into 2023.
County Engineer John Welle presented to the Board on the Highway Department’s Budget seeing increases due to a big project.
Approval was given for an Amish Community Cemetery Plat and the Juvenile Detention Center Joint Powers Agreement with Anoka County. Economic Development Coordinator Mark Jeffers spoke before Commissioners on a grant application proposal for the Blandin Foundation Leadership Boost Grant.
The Board approved the applications which featured the DEED Child Care Grant which includes $50,000 in matching funds and $15,000 in kind.
County Administrator Jessica Seibert noted conversations continue on 2023 Legislative Priorities and Capital Improvement Plans.
The Board also did approve resolutions including the County VSO Operational Enhancement Grant Program, Large Assembly License for White Pine Logging, a donation to the Sheriff’s Office, Setting Unorganized Townships Levies for 2023, and a donation from the Community Foundation to the Search and Rescue Group.
The Aitkin County Board of Commissioners are next scheduled to meet on September 13th at 9am from the Government Center Board Room.
