Aitkin County Board meeting from Tuesday, March 22nd

(Aitkin, MN) — The Aitkin County Board of Commissioners held discussion on the redistricting of Commissioner Districts and awarded engineering contracts during their second March meeting on Tuesday from the Government Center Board Room.
County Engineer John Welle presented to the Board on bids for the annual application for 490,000 of calcium chloride on county highways and township roads.
The low bid from Knife River in the amount of $541,450 was approved by Commissioners and the contract for seal coating County Highways 22, 23, 24 to Asphalt Surface Technologies Corp of St Cloud at a cost of $493,564.47 and the purchase of two pick-up trucks.
Environmental Services Director Andrew Calrstrom returned after a public hearing on CWD/Cervid Farms to refer to the Planning Commission on changes to the Zoning Ordinance on creating an interim amendment restricting new cervid farms.
That plan was approved by the Board as well as the second reading of the resolution for Zoning Ordinance Amendment Appendix A Classification. Following the approval of a Tobacco Products license for Fisherman’s Bay, Auditor Kirk Peysar opened the discussion of redistricting of the Commissioners District, which would go into effect on April 12, 2022 based on population changes.
Commissioners will confirm changes to the District map at a public hearing on April 12th.
During her Administrator Update, Jessica Seibert noted that employee Dan Haskin received recognition for his GIS work and training.
The Aitkin County Board of Commissioners will next meet on Tuesday, April 12th at 9am from the Government Center Board Room.
