American Crystal Sugarbeet Harvest 85% Complete
Hillsboro, ND — It’s the final push for the 2022 American Crystal Sugar Beet Harvest. As of Thursday, October 13th, American Crystal is approximately 85% complete with the harvest in the Red River Valley. Many farms are wrapping up or in their final fields and some piling stations are beginning to adjust hours. There have been minimal disruptions during this year’s harvest as well, which was delayed a handful of days due to heat, but American Crystal General Agronomist Joe Hastings says overall they are in a very good place for October 13th.
The quality of this year’s crop is favorable as well. Hastings says given how late the crop was planted this year, they are very pleased with both their sugar content and tonnage so far.
Hastings explains how the dry fall, as well as healthy leaves, resulted in exceptional sugar content in this year’s crop.
And between their northernmost district in Drayton and southernmost district in Moorhead, Hastings says there are some differences in the crop depending on where you are in the Red River Valley.
As of Thursday evening, only the Eldred piling station in the Crookston District and the Amenia piling station in the Moorhead District had completed their harvest.
