(Aitkin, MN) — The partnership with American Peat Technology in Aitkin and the Brother Justus Whiskey Company of Minneapolis has been favorable for both groups with the first ever cold-peated whiskey hitting the shelves and bringing a slice of Aitkin County to the masses.
We had the opportunity to speak with American Peat Technology Vice President of Sales and Research Peggy Jones to ask a simple question, what is peat?
Jones also mentioned APT is using their peat production sets them apart from others.
Founder and CEO of Brother Justus Whiskey Phil Steger got the name from a monk during the Great Depression and Prohibition Era who manufactured whiskey and how their product is different from other whiskeys.
APT and Brother Justus came together initially in 2016 with their official partnership coming to fruition with the “Aitkin County Process” in 2020 to develop the “Brother Justus Cold-Peated Whiskey”. Steger also talked about how Aitkin County is recognized on the bottle itself.
For those who haven’t tried Brother Justus, Phil will be on hand for the Aitkin All Class Reunion and Riverboat Heritage Days.
