Area Politicians React to Hamas attacks in Israel
On Saturday, October 7 Palestinian Militant Group called the Hamas unleashed a surprise attack on Israel that led to the deaths of over 1,000 Israelis most being civilians with the number growing every day. This conflict has caused many worldwide, nationwide and local politicians to voice their opinions.
Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz took to X on Saturday and condemned the attacks saying tha “Minnesota condemns the horrific attacks on Israel by Hamas. On a holiday that should be spent peacefully with loved ones, my heart breaks for the victims of this terrible act of violence.”
North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum shared similar sentiment in a press release on the North Dakota Office of the Governor website saying that “The attack by Hamas terrorists on Israel is reprehensible, and the fact it occurred on a Jewish holiday is despicable. We stand with our democratic ally Israel while lifting up in prayer the victims of these horrific attacks.”
Representative Michelle Fischbach also posted a post condemning the Hamas attacks saying that “I stand with America’s strongest ally in the Middle East as they defend themselves against the horrific attacks by Iran-backed Hamas terrorists.”
Senator Amy Klobuchar also condemned the attacks on Sunday Saying “The violence being perpetrated against Israeli citizens is horrific and gut wrenching. I unequivocally condemn these Hamas terrorist attacks. The United States stands with Israel.”
In total the fighting has left over 1,500 Israelies and Palestinians dead with over 3,500 injuries for both sides. President Joe Biden has also said that 11 Americans have been killed in the fighting.
