Arrowhead Ultra 135!

January 27, 2025 News News -- KSDM-KGHS 0

Today started out the Arrowhead Ultra 135  , the northern Minnesota’s race across 135 miles in the cold. Participants from all over our country as well as from around the world, sign up for a chance to brave the cold and finish the race. Ken and Jackie Kreuger, co directors of the Arrowhead Ultra 135, deemed the toughest endurance challenge and one of the fifty toughest races in the world. Ken Kreuger, co-director and participant of the race, spoke with Dawn Wilcox of KSDM/KGHS as she asked Ken if he had ever competed in the race.

This race, on average, finishes about 50%. For new racers, the finish rate is much lower than that. In 2019 it was 35%, and with last year’s warm temperatures, it was 68%.

From Kerry Park Arena in International Falls, to the Blue Ox Trail for 9 miles, and then to the Arrowhead Trail all the way to Fortune Bay Casino in Tower, the Arrowhead Ultra 135 challenges every racers mental and physical strength. With the racers checking in their gear yesterday at Backus Community center, the race starts this morning.

With the race you can enter as either supported or unsupported and Ken Kreuger (Kreeger) explains the difference

Tonight’s first check is the Gateway Store in Kabetogama. Supported, or Unsupported, on bike, on foot, or on skis,  this place is your first goal….to stay on track to finish the Arrowhead Ultra 135. Please listen tomorrow as we hear more on the race with Ken and Jackie and get an update. Join us as we cheer on Local Favorite Mike Lessard, also known as One Doggie, on this year’s Race!
