It’s no secret that like much of the country, Minnesota is dealing with a law enforcement officer shortage, as many departments have had to close, or downsize due to lack of positions filled. A group of bi-partisan lawmakers in the Minnesota House and Senate are trying to fix this by pushing for legislation that would establish a scholarship program for officers. Rep. Dan Wolgamott (D-St Cloud) tells us more about the need for law enforcement officers in Minnesota, and he also shared some concerning statistics.

Rep. Wolgamott also told us more about his legislation called House File 2454, and explained who would be eligible for it.

Some area police departments that have had to close due to staffing over the last couple years include the Twin Valley, and Morris Police Departments. You can learn more about HF2454 by going to the Minnesota Legislature website at www.revisor.mn.gov/bills
