Burgum Suspends Presidential Campaign
North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum announced earlier today that he will be suspending his campaign for United States President. In a release Burgum said that “We are deeply grateful for each and every person who supported us with their ideas, prayers, advocacy, encouragement and enthusiasm,” and that, “Kathryn and I will always remain committed to fighting for the people who make our nation so exceptional.”
Burgum also took some shots at the Republican National Committee and the National Media saying that “The RNC’s mission is to win elections. It is not their mission to reduce competition and restrict fresh ideas by ‘narrowing the field’ months before the Iowa caucuses or the first in the nation New Hampshire primary.” Burgum also said “These arbitrary criteria ensure advantages for candidates from major media markets on the coasts versus America’s Heartland. None of their debate criteria relate to the qualifications related to actually doing the job of the president. This effort to nationalize the primary system is unhealthy for the future of the party, especially for a party that proclaims to value leadership from outside of Washington.”
Burgum first announced his candidacy for President back on June 7, but his campaign hit a major roadblock when he failed to qualify for the 3rd Republican Debate back on November 8. Burgum also failed to qualify for the 4th Republican Debate which is set to take place on Wednesday.
Florida Governor Ron Desantis, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, and entrepreneur Vivik Ramaswamy are all expected to be on the debate stage with Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on the verge of qualifying. Former President Donald Trump will not attend.
